The Finishing Bridal Touch: The Veil

10.03.19

There is something just so… bridal about a veil! While we do love all the unique headpieces and hair accessories that are so hot right now, somehow a bride’s wedding day look often doesn’t seem complete without that finishing touch – dare we say, the cherry on top – the veil!

One of the most fabulous things about the bridal veil is its versatility! Veils afford a bride unlimited style options! You, beautiful bride, can choose from virtually any length, from birdcage to cathedral and everything in between.

Sweet elbow-length veil, perfect for this lovely outdoor ceremony
Very trendy right now – face or birdcage veils
Knee-length veil, a great compromise between long and short!

You should use your gown, the style of your wedding and your ceremony venue as your guide. To further expand your wedding day style options, you can pair your veil with a fabulous complementary headpiece, removing just the veil after your ceremony or replace the veil with hair jewelry for the reception.

This bride exchanged her long veil for a shorter, more simple one for the reception
This bride removed her veil after the ceremony, exposing a beautiful hair clip for the celebration

But you might wait to remove your veil until after your first dance to capture a fun photo opp like these.

More selections to consider: Do you want a simple, unadorned tulle veil, one with sparkle or shimmer or one with lace? If your wedding gown is ornate, a very simple veil is best so it won’t compete with your gown. If your gown is lightly embellished or quite simple, you can go with either a plain veil or something more elaborate.

This veil has just a touch of lace to tie in to the bride’s lace gown – beautiful!
The “Grace Kelly” veil from Toni Federici is a prefectly classic simple cathedral veil
The crystals scattered all over the veil are a great way to add sparkle and interest
since the bride’s gown has no embellishments

Do you want your veil to have a cut edge or one finished with lace or a ribbon? The cut, raw edge gives your veil a more ethereal feel, subtly complementing your overall look, whereas a veil with a stronger edge of ribbon, lace or even sparkle has more prominence in your wedding day ensemble.

This bride’s gown has a lot of ruffles and texture on the skirt,
so her long veil is best with no embellishment and a cut edge
This lace-edged veil is a perfect match to the bride’s lace gown.
This stunning ribbon-trimmed veil is a great complement to this very simple gown

Are you getting excited about your choices yet? Wait, there’s more! Do you want a veil of just a layer or two or something with a little more depth or volume? Yet another option is to have your veil comprised of multiple layers in different lengths, using the full length during your ceremony but removing the longer layer and keeping a shorter one on for the duration of your reception.

Love this bride’s gorgeous lace-embellished cathedral length veil perfect for a church wedding,
but she removed the longer portion, wearing only a simple, shorter veil for the party.

Some fabulous trends we’re seeing in veils right now are:

Colored veils, usually to match colored bridal gowns, but sometimes the veil stands alone (or with a fur!) as the pop of color

This gorgeous and very “now” face veil is a perfect match to the earthy colored gown
Pretty in Pink! This bride boldly wore a pink gown and veil
This bride’s vintage style included a bold teal veil and fur

Face or birdcage veil made of regular tulle or Russian or French tulle

These veils can cover one or both eyes
This simple tulle birdcage covers the whole face. Aren’t those feathers so fun?
This veil partially covers the bride’s face with Russian tulle

Vintage style cap veils

Painted veils

Photographers seem to love veils, too! They are using these gorgeous accessories as props in their photography.

We are especially fond of the windblown veil pic! And while you might be concerned about wearing a long veil in the wind between the ceremony and reception sites or during photos, they are actually quite easy to manage, as you can just pull your veil around and drape it over your arm. Voilá, your veil is safe and secure! Also, your long veil can double as a wrap if it gets chilly at sendoff time; just remove and wrap it around your shoulders and it becomes an impromptu shawl.

A long veil is easily managed by draping it over your arm.

Are you feeling the love yet? Seriously, lovely brides, consider a veil…you don’t want to look back at your wedding photos and realize you did not look as much like a bride as you could have, but more like just a lady in a pretty white dress or a debutante!

Can you tell which of these photos shows a bride? None of them!
They are either on their way to prom or are a deb! Veils help make that distinction.

Stardust carries veils from several renowned designers, including Toni Federici, Debra Moreland, and more! We host trunk shows a few times each year for these lovely accessories, and often the designer herself will attend to meet and personally style brides! Our veils range in price from $150 to $1,200, depending on all of the above-mentioned options. Our experienced bridal stylists are experts at helping brides pair the perfect veil with a wedding gown and are happy to educate you on all the different styles and variations veils have to offer. Make an appointment to see how a veil can finish off your bridal magic!

Fabulous Fall Wedding Favors

09.23.19

Even though it’s still rather warm here in Texas, today marks the first day of Fall. To help you turn your thoughts toward cooler times and warmer colors, we want to share some super-fun and yes, fabulous, Fall-inspired favor ideas with you.

Fall is a wonderful time of year for several fruits. Who doesn’t love apples, especially when they are covered in caramel or chocolate or nuts or whatever else your hearts (and taste buds!) desire?! And they are so pretty, aren’t they?!

Cellophane bags make perfect packaging for these treats!
Get creative with your presentation of these sweet treats!

Another way we enjoy fruit in the fall is in delicious pies!!! Look at these darling minis, perfect for one or two people to delight in.

Enlist your baking friends to help you make these cuties during a pie party or talk with your bakery.

Another fruit perfectly in season during Autumn is the pear! Juicy and sweet, pears can be a cute option for favors.

Put several pears in a bag for a generous seasonal favor.
They are equally as impressive as singles when wrapped in customized tissue.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, fresh and fragrant herbs make another wonderful favor inspiration.

These petite pots of various fresh herbs serve double duty as escort “cards”.
Herb-scented sea salt is an impressive DIY favor project requiring little effort!
And we are always suckers for both the lovely and the practical!

Along the same line as herbs, tiny plants make great favors, as well.

Using the potted favor as an escort or place card makes these simple and elegant plants well worth the cost.

With promises that evening temps will soon be dropping low enough to consider lighting up a bonfire, we will leave you with this final sweet treat, perfect for a fall favor that will melt your guests’ hearts: s’mores kits!

Cute glassine bags filled with graham crackers, chocolate squares and marshmallows
invite your guests to remember you again later as they make s’mores by a fire.

Coming up with creative seasonal ideas for your wedding favors can be fun and easy. Just brainstorm about your favorite memories of fall and you are sure to dream up all kinds of fabulous favors that will let your guests know how much you appreciate them helping you make new memories on your wedding day! Happy planning!

Branding Your Wedding with Logos, Monograms and Initials

02.28.19

We LOVE monograms! Simply adore them and truly cannot get enough of them! We love how easy for couples it makes personalizing their weddings merely by incorporating a monogram, their initials and/or names or even a custom wedding logo into their wedding day design. And while it’s historically known as a southern thing, and monograms have been big here…well, pretty much always…this unique twist to weddings just keeps spreading as more and more couples across the country are using them for their big day.

We’ve planned several weddings in recent times where we’ve incorporated such personalization, and part of the fun is coming up with all of the ways or places you can use them! Here are some of our favorite examples:

We put this couple’s initials on their invitation, their joint monogram on their cake (which also had a gorgeous initial topper!) and their last name initial on their reception dinner menu. But our favorite personalized element of this wedding is that stunning monogrammed aisle runner!

For this couple, we included their first name initials on their wedding program, put a gorgeous monogram gobo on their dance floor and included that same joint monogram on their reception menus and even their photo booth strips!

This couple wanted an eclectic mix of personalization, so their cake showcased their married surname initial, the dance floor gobo showed that initial along with their first names and their table cards included their first name initials. We tied them all together by using the same scrolled oval frame around each element.

For this elegant event, we include a fanciful initial for the bride’s maiden name on the wedding program, and their married last name was represented on the reception dinner menu.
We mixed things up for this wedding, as well. The couple’s first name initials were on the wedding program, while the cupcakes featured their last name initial and their dance floor gobo showed their first names and last initial.

This glam wedding featured another eclectic mix of initials and names, tied together with an elegant scrolled frame. We especially love that calligraphied cake topper that perfectly matched the paper products!

This stunning red and black affair featured the bride’s and groom’s initials as large hanging floral arrangements framing the chapel doors, and we repurposed them at the reception. We also included the couple’s married last name initial on pillows and napkins in the cocktail hour lounge. Their blinged out favor boxes included their last name initial with their first names.

Do you brides love monograms as much as we do? Are any of you planning to incorporate them in your wedding day décor?

Trends We Love: The Pre-Ceremony Beverage Station or Cocktail Hour

01.29.19

A wedding is a time of celebration and fun – and an opportunity to flex your hospitality muscles! All good hosts know it’s best to welcome guests into your home by offering them something to drink right away. We love extending this sentiment to weddings with the pre-ceremony beverage.

Think of this trend as the cocktail hour before the wedding. But, the beverages do not necessarily have to be alcoholic! The pre-ceremony cocktail hour is a fun way to have your guests mingle and get to know one another before the official festivities start.

This idea really works best when your ceremony is at a venue that’s not a church, temple or other place of worship because of time and space constraints or the facility’s policies. The pre-ceremony drink station is especially appreciated if your ceremony is outside. In the fall, a warm beverage station (think coffee, cider and hot cocoa – spiked or not) is a fantastic way to welcome your guests and help them ward off a chill while waiting for your walk down the aisle.

And, now that we’re enjoying warmer weather, something cool and refreshing would be the go-to for a pre-wedding drink!

It can be something simple, such as flavored or sparkling water to lemonade and tea (ooooohhh, Arnold Palmers!) to mimosas or maybe even a signature cocktail just for your special day. Just make sure if you decided to serve cocktails to keep the time relatively short and consider having the drinks passed so guests don’t consume too much alcohol before your ceremony.

Consult with your caterer or ceremony venue contact to explore what your options are for a pre-ceremony beverage offering. Or brainstorm with your wedding planner on other fun and creative ways you can make your day special. Oh, you don’t have one of those? Our talented Weddings by StarDust planning team would love to chat with you about how they can help you have the beautiful, imaginative wedding you’ve dreamed of! Bridesmaids Gown Trends 2017

06.12.17

Long gone are the days of the single-wear bridesmaid dress that you dreaded to buy, yet alone wear. Today, brides are allowing their #bridetribe to choose the dresses that best suit them or even choosing a unique style or separates that can be restyled for an every day outfit! Can we get an AMEN! We are thrilled to bring you the top trending bridesmaid styles and some gorgeous StarDust styles to represent.

Separates

Separates have become all the rage in both ready to wear and on your best friend’s special day.  Whether it is a lace top paired with a chiffon skirt or a sequin bodice and silk taffeta skirt, the options can all be worn again.  Pair your lace top with a pair of jeans for a happy hour, mix up the sequin bodice with a pair of black skinnies for a night out or even throw on a jean jacket or blazer and wear to work!  We are loving the versatility of this new style and the re-wear/re-style opportunities that come with it!

Ready to Wear Gowns

We love when a bride wants her #squad to look just as glamourous on her wedding day!  From fully beaded or sequined styles to chic, avant-garde gowns, brides are opting for a group of lavish ladies to stand at the alter in fashion-forward frocks.

Simple

Simplicity is key when it comes to the latest bridesmaid style.  Chic, clean lines with limited detail are the perfect pairing with ANY style of wedding.  This simplistic trend compliments all wedding gowns and wedding themes and will never take away from the bride on her special day!

High Necklines

We love this modest, yet fashionable, trend that works for all body types!  With a high neckline, there is no need to worry about bust size, bust spillage on the dance floor or eye-catching cleavage in your formal pictures.  This trend comes in many different styles and fabrications – halter neckline, bateau neckline, criss-cross neckline, lace neckline, illusion neckline, queen-anne collar, you name it and we do not think you can go wrong with any of these options!

Pastels

Subtle hues of ivory, blush, lavender, soft blue, champagne, mint green, etc. are continuing to work their way into the go-to bridesmaid gown choices of color.  Whether the bride opts to have her leading ladies wear various shades of one color tone or chooses to go with one shade for all, the soft tonality seems to still be the reigning choice and one that compliments the bride effortlessly!
