New York Bridal Market Sneak Peek

04.17.15

Oh how we adore Bridal Market, which kicks off tomorrow for the Spring 2016 Bridal Gown season. It’s an incredibly exciting adventure as we run breathlessly from show to show watching bridal gown designers unveil their latest genius in wedding gown (and sometimes bridesmaids) style. Big reveal after big reveal tells us what stylish brides everywhere want to know: what are the hottest trends and latest wedding day fashions?

The dream team at Martha Stewart Weddings put together a fun sneak peek of sketches and inspiration shared with them by several designers. We’ve pulled out a few of our beloved designers to share with you here. And know that we will recap right here for you all of the gorgeous goodness that we soak in over the next several days during New York Bridal Market, so stay tuned!

Jessica Williams, designer for Alvina Valenta simply stated her inspiration was “The Luminaries.”

Claire Pettibone shares thoughts behind her inspiration: “The endless land absorbs our dreams, and the
sheltering sky embraces the dreamers with its wide blue arms. You and I are like the tawny hawks sailing
over our heads, making slow shadows on the grass.”

“Gumption through geometric influences and vulnerability in romantic surfaces” inspired Hayley Paige
for her Spring 2016 Collection

We don’t know about you, but this has certainly piqued our interest! We cannot wait to see what these and many other talented designers have for brides for Spring 2016!

Trends for Spring 2015 Wedding Gowns, a Recap of 2014 New York Bridal Market

10.17.14

This past weekend’s New York Bridal Market was, in a word, fantastic! We are so in love with the newest gowns from all of our favorite designers. These trends are H-O-T and we could not be more excited to share them with you all!

Overall, there seems to be a general theme of sexiness: low necklines, low back, high slits, crop tops, cut outs and illusion lace. It’s all enough to get a groom’s heart racing! Here are some specifics:

Plunging Necklines
It’s a daring, how-low-can-you-go style, meant for the gutsy bride who is not afraid of showing a little décolletage.

Open Backs
Yes. Still. There is something so sensual yet elegant about a women’s back, and these gowns highlight them in breathtaking ways.

Color
Color is still very prevalent and not just in pinks and blushes. While we are still noticing soft pinks, we’re also seeing more blues and greens, which are just magnificent.

Bold Bling
Designers are incorporating large beads, encrusted jewels and beaded fringe and the effect is bold, confident and daring!

Cutouts and Crop Tops
In keeping with the trend of showing a little more skin, designers are playing peekaboo with cutouts and crop tops.

Short and Sweet
A little more casual and a lot more sassy, shorter gowns are definitely gaining in popularity. And while some brides may not opt for them for their actual ceremony, these short little numbers still make a stylish statement for a get-away or send-off dress!

Long Sleeves
Elegant sleeves are holding strong as a trend. They’re especially spectacular in the illusion or lace variety, and these are simply lovely.

James Clifford Hjelm Honored by DEBI with the Lifetime Achievement Award

10.06.14

StarDust Celebrations is thrilled to congratulate the legendary James Clifford Hjelm on being given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the DEBI (Distinctive Excellence in the Bridal Industry) Awards last week. An icon in the industry, James Clifford (also known as Jim Hjelm) was awarded this honor for his numerous excellent years of designing stunning bridal gowns. We could not be more excited for James to be awarded this honor and to be a partner with him in this industry.

Recruited early in his career by the prestigious Priscilla of Boston, James earned a reputation for gorgeously chic gowns made with the utmost quality and detailing. He spent nearly two decades at Priscilla, during which he designed for celebrities and political powerhouses – including two presidents’ daughters. Jim left Boston for New York in 1980 to serve as head designer at Galina Bouquet, where he worked to further establish his own style and really make his mark on the industry. His design philosophy is to strike the perfect balance between classic styling and modern fashion flare. And he is incredibly gifted at finding this ideal harmony! His efforts paid off in 1987 when he was invited to join a major bridal house and head up his own namesake line.
James again took major strides forward when in 2004, he joined Mon Cheri Bridals to launch his James Clifford Collection. The exclusive, upscale collection is a culmination of James’ legendary vision, extraordinary talent and unmistakable style.
In addition to his incredible design prowess, James is an absolutely lovely person. He personally attends many trunk shows for his gowns throughout the country, and we have been honored to host him at StarDust several times. He is warm and genuine, spending quality time not only with our brides but with our staff, as well. For such a creatively gifted designer, he is also very humble. We could not be happier that James was awarded this well-deserved honor.
Here are some of the breath-taking styles of the James Clifford Collection we carry at our specialty salon catering to voluptuous brides, A Curvy Bride:

And here are some gorgeous styles we carry at our flagship StarDust Bridal Salon:

We also just have to share with you that several other 2014 DEBI Awards went to several of our wonderful designer partners. In fact, of the eight categories (two of which StarDust Celebrations does not carry), five of the winners are designers we offer!

Bridal Gowns: Allure Bridals (LuLu’s Bridal)
Bridesmaids Gowns: Bill Levkoff (LuLu’s Bridal)
Headpieces: Bel Aire Bridal (StarDust Bridal Salon)
Flower Girl: Joan Calabrese for Mon Cheri (StarDust Bridal Salon)
Special Occasion: Montage by Mon Cheri (StarDust Bridal Salon)

Congratulations to all of these talented, well-deserving bridal apparel professionals! Thank you for being such amazing partners in this incredible industry!
