Real Brides in Matthew Christopher

08.18.14

We loved seeing The Hills’ Jen Bunney in her gorg Matthew Christopher Bianca gown recently!

Jen Bunney looks beautiful in her Bianca gown, shown here with her Hills’ pals.

Jen and friend Heidi Montag at Jen’s wedding.

And while Jen did not get her gown at StarDust, we DO carry this beautiful gown!

But a few of our lovely brides we did help find Matthew Christopher have gotten some printed love lately, too! For example, beautiful Betsy, wearing Poppy, and her wedding is featured in the latest issue of Modern Luxury Brides of Dallas:

Bride Betsy wears MC’s Poppy and her bridesmaids are wearing Bill Levkoff from LuLu’s Bridal Boutique.

And the radiant Melissa is the cover bride on the Fall/Winter 2014 issue of Brides of North Texas in her Matthew Christopher Sofia gown:

And while her wedding hasn’t been published (at least yet, that we know of), stunning bride Kylie looks flawless in her Sofia gown by Matthew Christopher:

Simply beautiful!
The buttons down the back are so elegant!
While Kylie wowed in Sofia, her bridesmaids looked lovely in these After Six gowns from LuLu’s Bridal Boutique.

We hope we continue to see more fabulous Matthew Christopher brides in the wedding press! Want to see more phenomenal gowns by the talented Matthew Christopher? Call us to schedule an appointment at 972.781.1619 – or simply book online!

Real Wedding: Mayard-Steponaitis

08.15.14

Meet Andrea Mayard. A personal trainer and former Texas Tech cheerleader, Andrea has a passion for life. From the moment we met with her to discuss her wedding vision, we could feel it – and could not help but get caught up with her! When the chemistry with a client is great, it makes the planning process even more wonderful…and what a wonderful time we had working with Andrea and Glenn!

With active, busy work schedules often consisting of odd hours, both Andrea and Glenn decided three years ago to go out on an internet limb in an effort to find someone special. That fortuitous trial of online dating led to an incredible first date that has brought them to their happily ever after.

After hearing about a dramatic hot air balloon sunset proposal with an unexpected funny ending in a pitch-dark isolated cornfield, we learned three things about this fantastic couple. We then knew that Andrea and Glenn have a true joie de vivre, they find a way to always have fun (no matter the circumstances!) and this dynamic duo doesn’t do anything small! So we hit the ground running, planning their fabulously elegant yet eclectic, surprise-filled wedding!

The couple really wanted an outdoor ceremony that felt beautiful and natural, but also wanted the ceremony and reception in one location. The fabulous Rosewood Crescent fit the bill, especially once we started planning out the design of the event. We settled on a color palette of shades of purples and whites. Andrea wanted to include some modern vintage touches, so we accomplished that with her lace gown and birdcage veil, vintage photo charms on her bouquet, a rustic ceremony backdrop and chandeliers everywhere.

Andrea and Glenn are wine lovers so we found ways to work that into the theme and design. We used Andrea’s wine bottle candle holders as part the décor on her guest tables, while grapes and grapevines figured heavily in the floral design. And of course, their oenophilia also partly inspired the purple-hued color palette. A few other nods to their love of vino included the rustic, Tuscan-style pots used for some of their centerpieces and their signature cocktail, The Tuscan Kiss.

Right away, we learned that the Mayard-Steponaitis household was going to be “a house divided” over Glenn’s Texas Longhorn roots and Andrea’s Texas Tech pedigree, so we planned some good natured competition between the two.

Why, yes. Yes, that is a bride stunting. In. Her. Wedding. Dress. Seriously! We die! This was so fun and one of our favorite parts of the evening. The couple’s school fight songs played a role in their grand entrance, and it went a little something like this: The couple entered to Glenn’s UT Fight Song playing – which was then trumped by a jaw-dropping performance by Andrea and her Texas Tech alumni cheerleader friends! The guests were all blown away by this super-fun surprise, and it really got the crowd excited to see what the rest of the evening would hold.

Another wish high on the couple’s list was for the reception to be an incredibly fun party, one that their friends and family would remember for years to come. Andrea told us that we completely nailed it, and she was thrilled that for nearly the whole evening, not a single soul of their 150 guests was sitting. The incredible Emerald City Band had the dance floor packed the entire night. In fact, pretty much the only time guests were sitting was to enjoy their luscious steak and salmon duo plate with parmesan mashed potatoes, compliments of the Crescent’s talented chef. We loved Andrea’s description of dinner: “It felt like we were at a 5-star restaurant watching a concert!”

We sincerely could go on about this wedding; it definitely goes down in our books as one of our favorites. Here are a few more fun details we just have to share:

Trends We Love: Floral Crowns for Brides

08.13.14

Not long ago, just about the only lady you saw wearing a floral crown or halo at a wedding was the littlest lady – the flower girl. We are excited to discover that, thanks in part to the rustic and boho chic wedding movement, that is no longer the case! Sometimes we see bridesmaids in pretty floral headpieces but what we’re really enjoying is lots of beautiful brides wearing flower crowns! Whether the crown is colorful or all white; if it’s large and makes a statement or is delicate and dainty; and no matter if their hair is long and free, in an updo, in braids or in a low, loose chignon, brides wearing a floral crown are simply glorious!
We think these are absolutely fabulous:

A Beautiful Bride, Her Gown and the Portrait It Inspired

08.11.14

We want each and every one of our brides to love her wedding gown. We want a bride to find her exact dream gown, the one in which she feels her most beautiful to wear down the aisle. When our brides find THE DRESS, it makes our hearts sing. But when a bride and her mom love her wedding gown so much they have a portrait of the gown made…well. Words can’t really describe that feeling…

Beautiful bride Brett fell hard for Birnbaum & Bullock’s dramatic April gown. No small wonder, as she looks absolutely stunning in that gown!

As luck would have it, Brett’s mom knew an artist who was known for painting gowns! Ms. Wilson met artist Anita Felix through a shop in McKinney called Gray Living. Ms. Felix sold some art through the store, which Ms. Wilson happened to frequent, and the ladies became friendly over time. When Brett’s mother saw her daughter in the bridal gown, she knew she had to have a painting commissioned. Here is the gorgeous result:

Brett and her mom had the portrait on display at Brett and Austin’s wedding, where guests were enchanted by the lovely and unique painting.

Anita Felix’s artistic background is truly fascinating! Originally a ballet dancer, Anita has always painted for pleasure but never studied art formally beyond a couple of classes in school. Her two passions collided about three years ago when her love of ballet led to her painting tutus which then evolved into the more dramatic baroque and French style gowns she’s become known for.
Anita always paints to music and her music moves and influences her work. Gowns she’s painted while listening to classical or French music turn out elegant and romantic, while some of her more dramatic dresses and the ballet tutus are the results of her painting to jazz. When she paints these non-commissioned pieces, she creates improvisationally, just painting what she feels through the music.
When she paints a commissioned wedding gown, however, she meets with the bride for a bit, getting to know the bride and her personality and style. She also takes photos of the bride in her gown and once home, studies the photos, further getting to know the gown. From there, her talent takes over and the painting naturally comes to life. Anita can usually complete a commissioned bridal gown painting within a week, and each bride can trust the artist pours her heart and soul into each piece.
One of the photos Anita took when she met Brett.

The finished product: the detailing is truly amazing; doesn’t the lace look so real?!

Here are a few gown paintings Anita has shared with StarDust to pretty up our alterations room!
Back to Brett’s gown, Anita used many layers of paint to ensure the gown was the perfect color and luminosity.
She often will add watercolors to the acrylic paint she uses to enhance certain colors or features of the dress. For the lace bodice of the gown, Anita mixed paint with molding past, then used a very fine paintbrush to create a lace-like effect.
Her technique ensured the lace was in 3D and truly looked like lace. The finished portrait measured 36”x48”, but the artist will do portraits up to 48”x60”.

You can enjoy more of Anita’s beautiful work here.
